Hello Parents!
Yes, we all made it here in one piece and we’re all doing great! So you can stop worrying now… The bus to the airport had no air conditioning, so we all sweat together on the way there. Upon our arrival to the airport, two of the Dillers (Miriam and Noa) were asked by security personnel to switch passports in order to give the El AL workers an extra security test. It was very nerve-wracking but the security personnel were up to the task and figured it out very quickly. On the plane, we entertained ourselves with Toy Story coloring books (purchased conveniently at the airport duty free shop) and Disney movies as well as summer reading of course…
Anyway, the plane ride was extremely long but we all made it through alive. When we arrived at the Ben Gurion Airport, we were greeted by signs, leis, and chocolate milk in a bag by Justin, Danielle, Noah, and Ben. Then we had a few minutes to change our clothes and exchange money for shekels. After a long bus ride down to the negev, and a pit stop in which Rob rode a camel, we arrived at an ancient synagogue where Uriel (the Ashkelon teens’ version of Megan) told us about the ancient secret of the perfume made from the persimmon trees. Then, Danielle and Justin gave each of us an envelope with three positive adjectives that describe us to keep us motivated throughout the trip. Next we went and checked in to the Youth Hostel and had lunch, and then set out on our hike through Ein Gedi. We saw some beautiful waterfalls and natural pools where we got to finally cool off from the stifling heat. Today was the hottest day of the year here! After we finished our hike we stopped at the Dead Sea and took a quick dip, and of course emerged with our fair share of burns. Then we returned to the Youth Hostel and were finally rewarded with showers after a 36 hour day. Then we had some down time, ate dinner, and had our Ma’agal (where we reflect on our day). We each were given our buddies for the trip and wrote down what our expectations and goals were for ourselves, to be read on the plane home. After an exhausting day, we are finally about to go get some well-deserved sleep. Shalom and Lila Tov!

Love,
Noa, Lindsay, and Rachel O.
